This assignment asks you to present the research design your paper will be based on as well as the cases you have chosen to analyze, and to justify both decisions. Please explain how your chosen design and cases will allow you to best answer your research question. If you choose a comparative design, what causal leverage will these cases give you? If you choose a case study, what makes it a particularly compelling choice?

This is the 3rd assignment of the final research paper and my research questions is: how did the terroristic protest 2009 contribute to economic recession in Xinjiang? and my hypothesis is: terroristic protest led to population displacement and then led to economic decline. Short Paper 3 Guidelines

This assignment asks you to present the research design your paper will be based on as well as the case(s) you have chosen to analyze, and to justify both decisions. Please explain how your chosen design and cases will allow you to best answer your research question.

- Most of you are doing a case study, so explain why a case study is a good research design for answer your research question. What do you expect an in-depth study of one case to reveal that we wouldn’t be able to see in a large-n study?

- Present your case in relationship to the universe of cases of interest. What is this case a case of? What type of case is it? Typical? Extreme? Outlier? By this point you should have read enough about your subject to have some idea. Justify these answers. Why do you believe this is a typical or extreme case?

- Give all the necessary background information on your case. All your papers should have a short section (could be part of the introduction or a separate section) on some historical and contextual background presenting your case. For instance, if you are studying the success the Nigerian government has had in controlling Boko Haram, you should have a section on what Boko Haram is, when was it created, where does it operate in Nigeria and other countries, how many members does it have, some of its organizational characteristics, etc. Take this assignment as an opportunity to write the first draft of that part of your paper and get my feedback on it.
