Non-GMO Food is better than GMO
Introduction
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs), also known as organisms including, plants, animals, or microbes in which the genetic makeup (DNA) changes such that it does not happen obviously through breeding or natural recombination. It allows the transfer of separate genes from one creature to another. Foods that are produced using genetically modified organisms are called GMO foods. Non-genetically modified food has not been changed or engineered in any manner. Genetically modified foods are developed because they have some alleged advantages to the consumer. However, genetically modified foods pose a severe threat to people and the national food security of different countries. Biotechnology offers a diversity of possible benefits and dangers. It has improved food production by making the crops less susceptible to drought, pests, and viruses and enabling plants to compete effectively with weeds.
The presence of genetically modified food produces in our food system has been a theme of discussion globally. The topic is whether Non-GMO foods are better than genetically modified foods as they outweigh the possible environmental effects of their production. Some argue that genetically modified food is assisting in solving the issues regarding hunger, conservational sustainability, while others believe that they produce more harm than good hence suggest that Non genetically modified food is better than GMO's food. With research supporting both sides, to give a clear sense of the matters and arguments that surrounding GMOs, Non-GMOs foods are much better than GMO's food. The paper will provide a discussion of the harmful effects of genetically modified food on the environment and people which, shows that Non- GMO food is better than GMO foods.
According to (Hilbeck, et. al, 33), the use of genetically modified crops possibly offered various aids in agricultural practices, food security, nutrition, and health. However, there are multiple aspects of GM technology which needed further attention. The research recognizes that there is social anxiety concerning GM technology, especially with concern to the security of FM food for humanoid consumption and the potential impact of technology on the atmosphere. In anticipating the necessity to establish means of evaluating the safety of GM foods, the organization established the opinion 'substantial equivalence' that based on the id. This principle identifies that foodstuffs contained highly complex mixtures of various compounds. In acknowledgement of these complications, the GM plants' access should be by comparing the GM from with the Non -GM crop. After the assessment, the WHO identified that the GM plant might not be regarded as substantially equivalent compared to no Non GM plant.
Possible Effects of GM food on Human Nutrition
Though, GM technology proposes possible helpful variations in the structure of food, such changes should be measured within the framework of the general diet. Good health needs a balanced diet which comprises all the required nutrients in an optimum choice of proportions. Research on the impacts of GM food on nutrition has greatly taken into consideration the impacts of slight variations that might be produced by result GM food (Krimsky, 900). The most significant risk caused by GM food is that they have severe harmful impacts on the human body compared to Non-GMO food. Scientists suggest that the consumption of genetically modified food causes the development of disorders which are immune to antibiotics.
On the other hand, Non-GMO foods have not been inoculated with a range of antibiotics, which can cause destruction on the human body. The use growth hormone or antibiotics can develop microbe-resistant strains, reducing the general immunity of the body hence making the organism vulnerable to disease. Also, GM technology is an innovation; hence, much is not identified concerning their long term impacts on an individual. Different region and cultural societies are against GMO foods as they prefer Non-GMO as it as an artificial way of making foods. Various individuals are a...
