The Modernization theory, which was devised after the second World War was intended to be used as a tool to analyze the transition of traditional society forms to the modern society forms. This theory was of the opinion that the so called developed countries or societies followed some procedures to transform from the traditional society structure to the modernized society and that the underdeveloped or the current societies that are still in the traditional society forms should follow the same procedures or steps that the currently developed or modernized societies followed (Grew, R. 1977). This model is not realistic because the world is made of varied societies all spread across the globe all having vastly differing origins and history. These societies had their ways of survival and making a living and hence do not necessarily need any other form of scheme or script by which to follow in order to develop or modernize.
The dependency theory originated from the Marxist way of thinking in the late 1800’s. This theory is of the idea that the underdevelopment of the underdeveloped societies has thrived as a result of the unfair treatment that these traditional societies are subjected to by the modernized societies. The modernized society uses the traditional society as a source of cheap labor and raw materials, while using the underdeveloped society as the destination market for obsolete technology and poor quality goods (Vernengo, M.
