The benefits or detriments of a foreign investment are evaluated by examining the impacts posed to both the host and the foreign countries. Particularly, the impact of a forest investment is evaluated based on the three distinct aspects, namely, economic, social and political. For example, under economic consideration, aspects such as the investment ability to stimulate the economy through creation of employment opportunities, facilitation of resource transfers and development of human resource capital is examined (DeSare and Caprioglio 18). The four elements provide clear yardsticks to measure whether the investment is beneficial or harmful especially to the host country.
I place serious weight on the concern that (FPI), can lead to economic turmoil since poor investor regulations and protection are known to put foreign investors in full control of all the important investment portfolios. It is a grave concern because FPI are known to be unpredictable in nature and the volatility arising from the inflows and outflows of the portfolios investment usually poses severe effects on the economy of the host nations (DeSare and Caprioglio 38).
