The Gospel of Matthew
The Gospel of Matthew is one of four gospels in the Holy Bible and the first book in sequential order presented in the New Testament of the Bible. Matthew was one of the 12 apostles that were with Jesus Christ throughout His public ministry on earth. According to the Gospel of St. Matthew it discusses the ancestry, birth, and early life of Christ in the first two chapters. Also the book discusses the ministry of Jesus. Some descriptions of Christ`s wisdom are set around "discourses" such as the Sermon on the Mount in chapters 5 through 7. Chapter 10 involves the work and purpose of the disciples; chapter 13 is a compilation of parables; chapter 18 discusses the church; chapter 23 begins a discourse about insincerity and the future. Chapters 21 through 27 discuss the arrest, torture, and the death sentence of Jesus. The final chapter of the gospel describes the Resurrection and the Great Commission.
As an apostle, Matthew wrote this book in the early period of the church, most likely around A.D. 50. This was an occasion when most Christians were Jewish converts, so Matthew`s focus on Jewish perception in this gospel is comprehensible.
