Shamā'il al-Tirmidhi (The Appearance of Muhammad): A Reflection

Essay Instructions:

Ash-Shamā'il Muhammadiyyah ("The Appearance of Muhammad"), often referred to as Shamā'il al-Tirmidhi or simply Shamā'il, is a collection of ahadith compiled by the 9th-century scholar Tirmidhi regarding the intricate details of the Islamic prophet Muhammad's appearance, belongings, manners, and life. The book contains 399 narrations from the successors of Muhammad which are divided into 56 chapters.

Please read at least 40 narrations drawn from at least 8 different chapters of the Shamā'il (found here: https://sunnah(dot)com/shamail). Then post a paragraph of at least 600 words containing a reflection that connects at least 5 of the narrations you have read (from one or multiple chapters). Please ensure that no more than 150 words in your paragraph are citations from the Shamā'il. The point of this reflection should be to highlight one aspect that you find striking or recurrent or interesting about the descriptions of the Prophet ﷺ.

Notice that "Rasoolullah" means "the messenger of God," and that "sallallahu alaihe wasallam" (encoded as a ligature in this character: ﷺ) means "the Messanger of God (may God bless him and grant him peace)," so it should be understood to refer to Muhammad.

A lot can be said about the prophet and how he is described in the texts, but what I find the most intriguing and beautiful too, is the use of “the Seal of the Prophets”. At first, it is hard to understand the meaning behind these words but the combination of how the Prophet Muhammad is described, it aligns with him being the Seal of the Prophets. He is the final prophet and this is very significant for the Islam faith and beliefs because, through the Prophet Muhammad, the will of Allah for his beloved people are revealed. Another key point that is evident in the texts is the emphasis on loving the Prophet Muhammad more than things that are on this earth even a person’s own self. This act is a vital part of the Islam faith and is said to further strengthen the faith and connection to Allah, the creator, so knowing about the Prophet is truly an essential part of a person’s Islamic faith.
The other passages focused on the Prophet and little material things such as the ring on his right hand, shoes, armor, etc. These things with the explanation on the texts and how it relates to the Prophet Muhammad becomes valuable messa...
