The essay revolves around Hindu Literature and Ethics. The paper critically evaluates the roles played by women characters in the play Shakuntala and Vikramorvashiya. It has been noted that women do play very significant roles in any set of community set up, for this reason, in the drama mentioned previously; women characters have been portrayed to be of significance at varied stages
Role of women
Major and notable women characters in these dramas for Shakuntala are; Shakuntala, Gautami, Nusaya, and for Vikramorvashiya women include; Aushinari queen of Pururava, Urvashi, Chitralkha, Nipunika personal maid to queen Aushirani (Luthra, 78).
One of the roles that these women played in these two dramas is in development of the plot as well as theme and character development of other characters. Through these women, we are made to understand what kinds of person living with them. For instance, in through Shakuntala, indeed when she was given birth to, she was rejected by her father Vishwamitra, similarly, she is cursed by Durvasa, just because she was not greeted well by Shankutala.
In addition, women tend to be a simple of love and care. When rejected by her husband, the king, Shakuntala did not leave her son; she went with her back in the forest and took good care of her till he grew and developed into a man. In addition, she took good care of the wounded antelope, this signifies the heart women have feeling empathy and doing something to help better lives of others.
