When examined against Mark, Matthew enhanced the image of Jesus and the portrayal of the disciples. Matthew achieves this by adding more material to improve the message that Mark is trying to pass across. For example, Matthew 10:17-25 improves on Mark 13:9-13 to show how the relationship between God and the Holy Spirit. Mark does not indicate what the Holy Spirit is but Matthew shows that the Holy Spirit is from the Father.
Matthew also improves on Markan gospel by making it longer to make the message and purpose of Jesus clear.
