1 The reason why women (particularly oriental women) are recruited into the world market factories is their ability to produce through cheap labor. More particularly, the women from Third-world countries are well known for their manual dexterity, that is, she can work quickly and carefully.

2 Elson and Pearson’s Subordination thesis shows how women becomes undermined by the very system that employs labor. On one hand, it was said that since women are, for the most part, caretakers of the household the time that they devote to learning new skills are limited. On the other hand, however, this lack in training relegates the positions given to women as “unskilled” or “semi-skilled” as compared to the skilled ones handled by men. All in all, this results in the lower wage for women, more strenuous work, and low job-security.
3 What do these two authors mean by the “dialectic of capital and gender”? Give an example.
