Understanding mathematical processes and their application in real life is essential for anyone. It allows them to apply these processes, not only in mathematical thinking but also in dealing with or solving other related problems. Accordingly, in this lecture, I have learned a lot about the different mathematical processes, including sets, equations, and matrices. Due to the detailed explanations and cases provided, I have learned a lot about how this can be utilized in my daily living.
Learnings and their Applications
One of the most important learnings that I had was the definition and the use of sets. In our minds, we usually categorize and separate various things into sets without us consciously knowing about them. However, through mathematical concepts such as ‘union’ and ‘intersection,’ I realized how this unconscious act could be turned into a mathematical process that could then be used to analyze daily problems in life. For example, the use of union would show that combining two different sets (or subsets) may result in a bigger set with similar characteristics. In turn, this allows us to categorize and organize them so that it is easy to deal with them in the future. Additionally, one of the key points that I learned in using these sets is “fuzzy sets.” This concept allowed me to categorize elements that have a vague relationship with one another by using a bivalent condition.
