Human beings have been counting and tallying since the dawn of civilization beginning with bones, and it is through denoting the numbers with merits that the symbols have meaning (Crilly 34). The advent of the zero was important as it was possible to denote nothing and distinguish numbers (Crilly 34-35). It is possible to produce composite numbers just using the prime numbers as they are atoms of mathematics, and when we factor primes we get whole numbers.
The strangest numbers are the real, irrational and transcendental numbers (Crilly).
