Is the Sugar-Free Drink Really Healthy?
Diet sodas have been propagated as the solution to anyone willing to stop drinking the normal soft drinks, which are believed to have exaggerated sugar content. Often, these drinks are marketed for people who wish to reduce their sugar intake or are looking to reduce weight gain because of their low calories. Instead of using sugar like other soft drinks, diet sodas make use of artificial sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose, cyclamate, and saccharin. The popular belief is that these drinks help to reduce weight even though research continues to reveal damning evidence. As with everything else in the world, the marketing of a product often affects how people receive the product. So, currently, people have warmed up to the idea of having diet sodas in the hope that they will help them cut on their sugar intake. However, do diet sodas or sugar-free drinks really healthy? Do they promote healthy living or hamper people’s quest to live healthy lives? Well, this paper seeks to delve deeper into the matter and offer a personal opinion based on research done on sugar-free drinks. As the world continues to grapple with the truth indicated on the ingredients of diet sodas, this article seeks to discuss my observations after having a diet soda every day.
Before talking about the effects of drinking a diet soda every day, it is crucial that I mention that these natural sweeteners may not necessarily be nutritious. Diet sodas, for example, Diet Coke, Pepsi Max, Sprite Zero, etc. make use of artificial or natural sweeteners. However, this is no guarantee that these sweeteners are nutritious. The focus is on not using sugar and not on making the drinks nutritious. Therefore, the companies behind these drinks may not be at fault if they are producing drinks that are not nutritious. So, everyday drinking of diet sodas may not add anything of value to the bodies of those who drink it. As will be discussed later, they simply leave you with a sweetness in your mouth that might be a recipe for the consumption of more sugary drinks.
