Introduction
Revision involves modifying and making changes to an existing piece of work. When making changes to a paper, the student should reconsider his or her arguments, review the evidence available and reorganize the presentation to ensure that purpose of the paper is achieved. Most importantly, revisions ensure that both grammatical and spelling errors are identified and corrected. Revising also examines the suitability of a thesis statement and the effectiveness of the conclusion. Since revision goes beyond fixing commas and spelling it is important to evaluate other essential aspects so that writing can be effective. This paper evaluates how the revision of the provided piece could be done through improving on the analysis, adding rhetorical analysis and using effective attributive tags.
The first thing I could improve on is the analysis of the information retrieved from the source. Summarizing the ideas of other authors is important in helping the audience to understand one’s views. However, it is important to limit the amount of summary provided when writing. Therefore, it is essential to focus on analysis to support the one’s thesis and arguments (Noella Maree Mackenzie, p.376-377). For example, after summarizing that students should view themselves as writers with an audience and not students with a teacher I could go ahead and analyze why that is important to them. Writing for the audience rather than the teacher can help students make a transition from writing for themselves to writing for a broader audience. Students may also learn to evaluate if their work communicates with the intended audience.
Additionally, I could also add more rhetorical analysis, this is important in persuading the readers. The significance of rhetoric in writing is that helps in composing successful writing.
