Retrospective Essay: How Much I've Improved In Essay Writing
Instruction: Reflect on and analyze your writing and writing development over the semester to produce an insightful and persuasive argument about how to write effective academic essays. Look back over the work you’ve done this semester — both exercises and drafts — and reflect on your development as a writer. Think about where you started, where you are now, and where you hope to go with your writing. Remember to consider both your struggles and achievements, processes and finished products. You are expected to draw on your own writing as evidence, and use it to prove your point. Think about what writing means to you. Describe what it can or should do, how it happens, and how it evolves. What are your biggest takeaways from this semester? Your greatest challenges? How and where has your writing grown? Illustrate your claims with evidence from your exercises and essays this semester.
Imagine you are writing for a student magazine that will be distributed to the incoming class of QC freshman in the fall. What experiences and insights would you want to share with students new to the world of academic writing?
Incorporate and cite your own writing as evidence to support your claims.
