Scholarly paper on the topic of behavioral addictions with at least 5 novel references. References should be from peer-reviewed journals or from reputable sources (e.g. Scientific American). Paper must include in-text citations and a full works cited page at the end, in any format you are most familiar with (MLA, APA, etc).

All topics must be pre-approved by the instructor. Topics could be either related to what we have done in class or they can be new but they should be clearly related to internet addiction, one or more of its ingredients or its consequences. For example, you could discuss how goals or need for progression might fuel addictive behaviors or how attention economy fuels behavioral addictions.

Format should be like a news article (e.g. a New York Times article) or a scientific review article in which you explore a scholarly topic, describe and discuss research, and demonstrate critical thinking and analysis. Grammar and style are important components. Please include page numbers.

TOPIC:

My first research paper's topic is internet-based shopping addiction, in other words, online shopping addiction. Nowadays, social media has become a more important role in our daily lives, and advertising in social media simulates people to shopping. For example, on Instagram, many internet celebrities will post their clothes, bags, etc., to encourage fans to buy. If a person chooses not to follow them, other people will think that this person is out-of-fashion. Therefore, more and more people are having anxiety when they are not shopping and buying fashion stuff because they are afraid of others' perspectives. Also, more and more people are shopping because of vanity instead of necessities because of social media's influence.

Comment:

Be sure to include a variety of reputable sources and incorporate/explain class material. We expect research papers to read like an academic study/review or an investigative article. We look forward to reading your paper.

Internet-Based Shopping Addiction
Technology has revolutionized the world, and everyone is on their toes to match the pace. Most people are attached to their electronic devices than it was ten years ago. In the pervasive era of technology, Internet has become more addictive than drugs. Moreover, it can also be described as a behavioral addiction, whereby an individual engages in habits or behaviors despite their negative effects. Today, most businesses are done online, and the activities are quite enticing, leaving most people clung to these online services. What facilitates internet addiction? How do you outride internet ambitions? Internet-based addiction is a diverse and extensive topic that resonates with people and capitalism (Correa, 2020).
Additionally, it is a behavioral addiction in which an individual is so dependent on the Internet; in this case, the rhetorical purpose is embedded on the Internet. Everyone is addicted to internet services in different ways; for example, some people use the Internet to relieve stress. On the other hand, some would use the Internet to satisfy their ego or elevate their status quo (Jain, Tripathi, Ganesh & Sheth, 2018). Notably, some countries such as Korea, Europe, and America have the largest number of internet addictions. How do you know you are addicted to the Internet? Firstly, if you are too much into video gaming, online shopping, or online sex, it is a perfect clue that you are addicted to the Internet. Most people are in the first subtype of addiction which involves video gaming and online shopping. Secondly, if you are always visiting social media sites, your mobile device is still at hand; it is a clear indication that you are addicted (Hartney, 2020).
Let us explore internet-based addiction; it is affected almost everyone in generation z to baby booms. Most people wonder if they can be addicted to online shopping, well the answer is yes, and most psychiatrists believe it is a mental problem (Jain, Tripathi, Ganesh & Sheth, 2018). Think about this scenario whereby we are surrounded by advertisements in social media pushing for online services. Most companies come with the analogy that shopping makes people happier. Their argument is not objective; rather, it is driven by their desires to increase sales volumes and expand businesses (Jiang, Zhao, & Li, 2017). Buy America is a perfect narrative that encourages internet shopping leading to an addiction. The aspect of urging people to buy more through online services to build an economy leads to addiction. Internet shopping addiction is embedded in consumerism, which is acquiring products even when you do not need them. Do you know most people acquire products impulsively? I once encountered a neighbor disposing of a perfectly functioning washing machine to buy another through online platforms (Correa, 2020).
The online company offered a good discount, and the product was vintage; this is known as consumerism. Consumerism is a disease that is spreading fast, and the Internet accelerates it. Most celebrities persuade people to buy commodities through their social media platforms. Surprisingly, most people do not believe that internet shopping addiction is real, but the truth is most people find themselves in the holes of consumerism without their knowledge. Essentially, shopping addiction through online platforms is pushed by cravings for buying more goods (Hartney, 2020).
Internet shopping addiction has adverse effects on the shoppers; for instance, the craving to acquire more products makes them guilt due to past-purchase. Why do people like online shopping? Internet shopping is an extensive discussion and requires energy to override the desire to purchase goods and services. Internet and technology have brought everythin...
