ADOLF HITLER V. CHARLIE CHAPLIN

Essay Instructions:

We have discussed dictatorships and dictators extensively in this course, and you have encountered more than a few in your reading of authors such as Alma Guillermoprieto and Mario Vargas Llosa. Taking any two of the dictators you have read about, compare their personalities and their approach to government and power. What qualities and characteristics make these dictators distinct from one another? What similarities can you find? Did they manage the levers of government successfully? What mistakes did they make? What methods did they use to maintain their power?

You must quote from the texts at least three times in support of your argument. Be detailed and provide concrete examples. You must write AT LEAST three body paragraphs and a conclusion paragraph. Please don’t summarize unnecessarily (but provide context when necessary) and choose an interesting title. You have three and a half hours to complete this mid-term. Any mid-term handed in after six-thirty p.m. will not be graded, so please make sure you post this writing on time, for this is 25% of your grade.
