To make a good artist one has to turn the energy possessed into something beautiful and use their creativity to influence and resonate with the target audience. Today anyone can literally and virtually become an artist, but to become a good artist the produced pieces and content must have an impact and trigger feelings and emotions. One is the fact that they are good at what they do and two they have the uniqueness that gives them an artistic character which other people either do admire or hate making them popular. This paper is going to look into this art and particularly focus on rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Kanye Omari West. Born 8 June 1977 Kanye West is an American rapper who also produces, writes and composes, and sings. He recently joined the entrepreneurial sector by releasing his cloth line that concentrated on shoes dubbed Yeezy. His music career can be said to be a dramatic journey to the top and has managed to influence cultures all over the world especially with his mainstream hip-hop style of music. Although born in Atlanta Kanye is raised in Chicago - a town he is proud of as he has mentioned and saluted the area several times in his smash hits. In early 2000 he became a producer at the Roc A Fella Records, and among the artists, he produced for during the time include, Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Ludacris among other big names in the industry. In 2004, he pursued his solo career by releasing his platinum-selling album "the college dropout," and in the same year, he founded the good music label. Artists are also known to experiment, and like Kanye, he went ahead and lashed to different musical genres on his other albums which included; 2005 late registration, graduation 2007, in 2008 he released his 808s & Heartbreak. In 2010, he released My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Yeezus in 2013, and the life of able 2016 among others. Kanye West albums have all done well in the charts and besides worldwide recognition; most of them have been certified platinum. In the 21st century, Kanye West is among the most acclaimed musician selling over 135 million records worldwide. He is among the most awarded musician of this generation winning 21 Grammy Awards. Such success, however, does not come to just anyone. Thus Kanye has something special in him, and he knows it. His journey to the top has not been easy as his genre of music demands one must have an image of a gangster, which is something Kanye lacks. Many recording labels turned him away as he lacked this image. "Gangster image" is portrayed in mainstream hip-hop. Mr. West breakthrough was, however, witnessed in October 2003 when he fell asleep while driving and caused a head-on collision with another car. The incident left Mr. West with a shattered jaw that required reconstructive surgery. While in the hospital with a wired jaw, West composed a song dubbed "through the wire" which was an expression of what he was feeling after the accident. According to Mr. West "through the wire" was meant to distract him from the pain as he expresses himself to the world. It was his medicine. He also observed to be working on an album where he was going to share his own opinion and make his own decision irrespective of what the society tells him.
