Immigrants usually seek permanent residence in the countries they immigrate to. People immigrate to other countries through employment, family reunion, winning green card lottery, and through refugee and asylum seekers status.
All countries have their own immigration policies. An immigration policy is important for the purposes of ensuring that the right procedures are met in allowing immigration. It also helps in reducing illegal immigration. The US immigration policy recognizes the need for family unity and therefore allows immigration for the purposes of this. Most immigration is usually for purposes of reuniting families.
