The term also represents accelerated global integration. Global integration has been characterized by the flow of people, goods, and information through global supply chains (Lecture 5/23). Global connectivity has primarily affected every aspect of human life, including the social, economic, and political aspects. These connections are pretty sensitive to global shocks, such as wars, economic recessions, and pandemics. The results of these disruptions are cascading consequences across local and global scales. Arguably, globalization has been the best thing to happen to humanity. Globalization has enhanced global growth and productivity, introduced new technologies, and increased employment opportunities across the globe. Since the 1970s, transportation, communication, and trade advancements have reshaped humanity profoundly. Humanity has benefited from the unprecedented growth and prosperity of the global economy as influenced by global interconnectivity. Since the 1970s, markets have expanded, and global supply chains have emerged. More so, humanity has evolved through exchanging ideas and cultural practices across the continents. Expanding global connectivity has mainly promoted cross-cultural understanding and tolerance since the 1970s. Also, humanity has become more politically interconnected through the growth of global connectivity. Addressing global challenges through innovative ideas has become the primary focus of world leaders. Nonetheless, global connectivity has had severe and adverse effects on humanity since the late 1970s. Income inequality, job displacement, cultural erosion, cultural homogenization, geopolitical instability, and environmental degradation are some of humanity's notable adverse impacts due to global connectivity (“Is Humanity Suicidal?”). Therefore, it is essential to examine the overarching effects of global connectivity on humanity through the lenses of sociocultural, economic, technological, and political aspects of human life. Firstly, global connectivity, particularly global economization, has created avenues for economies to be interconnected. Since the 1970s, foreign direct investment across regions has expanded to increase the manufacturing capacity of global industries. Consumers globally have been presented with more goods and improved quality of products in the market. More importantly, the utilization of resources during the production of goods has changed in that more goods are being produced using the same resources or, in some cases, even fewer resources (“Is Humanity Suicidal?”).
