You are ready to embark on our third and final project, which will take these skills to a higher level. INTRODUCTION/PROPOSAL PARAGRAPH:(10%) – due before class on July 27. You will write a paragraph in which you explain your reasons for your choice – what this site or institution means to the state of Georgia and the significance it has for you individually. You will also identify the areas you have chosen to research and explain your reasons for choosing these areas. YOU MAY USE FIRST PERSON IN THIS INTRODUCTION. II. MINI-PRESENTATION (5%): during class on July 27 You will compile a few interesting facts about your site or institution and will make a brief presentation about them during our last day of class. During your presentation, you should read your proposal paragraph to the class and explain what you have learned about your topic so far. (Note: although this presentation will be informal, it WILL be graded. A failure to conduct research and prepare for the presentation will result in a low grade.) III. WORKS CITED/OVERVIEW OF SOURCES: (25%): due July 26 before midnight You will present a correctly formatted Works Cited page that includes three different sources. Sources must be reliable and current. For each source on your list, you will provide a brief summary or overview. The Works Cited page will be worth 10 points and the summary of sources will be worth 15 points (5 points per source). I will give you a template to fill out for this. IV. RESEARCH PARAGRAPHS: (60%): due before midnight on Friday, July 31. You will write ONE paragraph about each of the areas you have researched. Each of the paragraphs must have one citation (either for a quote or for a paraphrase). Each paragraph will be worth 20 points (15 for content, 5 for citations). YOU MAY NOT USE THE FIRST PERSON IN THESE PARAGRAPHS. IMPORTANT RULES: (1) No second person (“you” or “your”) anywhere in your paragraphs. (2) No first person in your research paragraphs. (3) Avoid grammatical errors (verb tense shifts, fragments, run-ons, etc.) (4) One in-text citations for each research paragraph. (5) You may include quotes if you want, but they are not required. (6) No more than 20% similarity on turnitin.com. (7) You will have only “one shot” at this assignment – no revisions! Have fun with this project and make it meaningful! Introduction
Hartsfield-Jackson is one of the busiest airports in the world, but has in the recent past made significant losses due to the coronavirus pandemic that has spread to every continent globally. The airport was named after two former mayors of the city of Atlanta, Georgia, William Hartsfield and Maynard Jackson. The airport is historically significance as it hosts Delta Airlines, a leading global airline founded in Georgia. It was Hartsfield’s vision that Georgia’s future would be dependent on air transport. The airport Hartsfield-Jackson serves up to 150 destinations in the United States and over 75 destinations in 50 nations around the world and before the pandemic, it handled up to 2500 arrivals with 250,000 passengers daily (Sood). However, business has dropped since the first confirmation of COVID-19 in the beginning of 2020. This paper seeks to highlight three important aspects such as the people associated with Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, historic significance, and current activities during the global coronavirus pandemic.
People associated with the site
The busiest airport globally, Hartsfield-Jackson, derives its name from the men associated with the site. The people behind its naming are William Hartsfield and Maynard Jackson and their plaques can be seen in the local terminal just past the central security checkpoint. Officials at the airport began a movement to have the airport referred by the names of both men instead of simply “Hartsfield” as it is always called. The airport was initially christened in 1971 as the Hartsfield International Airport. Hartsfield’s plaque describes him as a man who treasured his city and was a servant to the people of Atlanta who expressed his leadership with fidelity and a rare foresight. In 2014, Jackson’s plaque was also placed at the site in his honor after opening the present-day domestic terminal in 1980 when he served as mayor.
