Friendship in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Making friends is part of every daily human life because they play a substantial role in helping a person handle various things. The choice of friends depends on the purpose and status of the person that is looking to make friends because not everyone can be fit for a friend. Therefore, in the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, friendship is important because it helps in connecting the different characters, propelling the story forward, expressing the author’s point of view as well as teaching the reader a lesson (Rowling 2016).
Friendship plays a substantial role in connecting the various characters of the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone hence bringing out a meaningful and readable story. A narration requires a connection of scenes which is made possible by the characters sharing a certain agenda. In this case, characters such as Ron, Hermione, and Harry are connected by the friendship which makes it possible for them to conquer the tests that they come across while finding the sorcerer's stone (Sundberg 2014). Without the theme of friendship, it would not have been easy for the author to narrate the part of finding the stone the way he did. The scene requires characters who understand one another so that they can conquer their enemies together and fulfill their agenda. Therefore, friendship has been used by the author to bring characters together hence contributing to the smooth flow of events within the narration.
As well, Rowling uses friendship to propel the narration forward through the different events that the characters go through. An example is the fact that Harry, Ron, and Hermione use their special skills and bring them into the friendship. As a result, they end up searching for the sorcerer's stone whereby they undergo a lot of tests but are able to conquer each one of them. This is made possible by the courage that Harry possesses, Ron's royalty and Hermione's intelligence that they bring into their friendship in order to help one another (Gale 2015). Therefore, the absence of friendship would have made it impossible for them to pass the tests that they go through during the process of finding the Sorcerer's Stone. In turn, this would have forced the author to come up with another strategy of continuing with the narration. However, the use of friendship, in this case, helps in the development of the story.
