Introduction
Mayr’s main point is supporting Darwinism. This is a theory that was developed by Charles Robert Darwin and other scientists. It states that all living things tend to originate and develop through the process of Natural Selection. This is a selection of inherited variations that increase the capability of living organisms to compete with one another, survive and be able to reproduce offspring of its kind. Natural selection preserves and accumulates some advantages whereby an individual inherits that functional advantage. Such a member of species then would pass that advantage on to its offspring. The inferior member of the same species is disadvantaged, and since it cannot acquire that advantage, it eventually dies out. I totally support Mayr’s point about Darwinism. This article will give points that illustrate the support I have given to Mayr’s point.
Darwin’s four contributions to his theory
Darwin’s four contributions to the new branch of life science are very important as illustrated by Mayr. Over time, these contributions have been proven even outside evolutionary biology. There has been non-consistency of species. This has been seen over time that species keep changing. There is no creature that has remained like the older creatures of its kind. Today, species adapt other features and inherit them to their offsprings.
Darwin’s branching evolution states that all species of living things on the earth originated from a single origin. This was way better proposal than all the other evolutionary proposals that were there until 1859 since they were based on linear evolution. Also according to Darwin, the process of evolution must be gradual and based on natural existence. This could have been proven futile if there could be any evolution that would occur at a faster rate.
Population Thinking
I agree with Darwin in rejecting the typology. This is because as shown by Mayr, it cannot accommodate variation and only gives rise to racism. Population thinking is what I take as it recognizes that all living organisms are populations that have different unique individuals. This is inclusive of all the human beings. That none of the humans on the earth are the same. Despite statistics showing that in the world ...
