Character: Duke Orsino

Entry#1: Act 1, Scene I: Duke Orsino’s Palace
Dear Diary
I completely understand the issue of love from the play as Duke Orsino presents it with his deep love to Olivia. I can’t withstand her love on the first time I saw her. He is in his places praising and lamenting the nature of love due to his experiences in his effort to love Olivia without success. I think life would be pretty good if I can manage to spend my life with Olivia in the throne if at all she accepts my offer for love.
“These sovereign thrones are all supplied, and fill'dHer sweet perfections with one self king!”
Orsino asks his attendants to play music to serenade him and then asks them to stop. He says love is like ocean which consumes everything that is cast into it. He continued to say that love is so full of shape that keeps changing its shape describing love as a state of hallucination.
Personal Statement
With the presence of the attendants who plays music to Orsino, I understand that that he indulges fully in his melodramatic melancholy. Apart from my state to stage a musical performance in my palace to show my love for music, I also express my clinched language, comparing my intense feeling for love to madness. The melancholic terms I use in my conversation gets to my understanding that this person in deep love with someone, in this case, Olivia is seen not to be interested or does not love me in return. I, therefore, describe Orsino as a person who falls in love quickly and easily and becomes more emotional with the love situations as presented through his actions and words as presented in this scene.

Entry#2: Act 1, Scene 4: Duke Orsino’s Palace
Dear Diary
We are introduced to Viola, Valentine, and Cesario discussing Orsino concerning the favors Cesario is receiving from him. As Orsino comes in in the palace, he requests to speak in private with Cesario. At this time, Orsino tells Cesario that has is 100 percent confident that Cesario will manage to convince Olivia and manage to talk to her. Orsino tells Cesario to go to Olivia’s house and make sure he obtains an audio recording their conversation on Orsino’s behalf. Orsino believes that Cesario will manage to persuade Olivia as he describes Cesario to have woman’s nature “his lips, his voice all resembles a woman’s part”. Orsino orders some four or five attendants to accompany Cesario to Viola’s house as he goes to obtain information and convince her to love Orsino. The mission, however, did not succeed as Viola claims she was not in a good position to communicate as she was still mourning and also felt that Orsino was not the right man to fall in love with.
Personal Statement
From the exchange of words between Orsino and Cesario concerning Olivia, a woman that Orsino is in love with, it has come to my understanding that Orsino had full trust, confidence, and favor with Cesario and could even trust him with his personal affairs. Orsino also alludes to the gender ambiguity of Cesario and the associated confusion when commented that Cesario resembles a woman, trying to persuade Olivia to feel free communicating and sharing her personal information with Cesario. I find this scene interesting n illustrating gender ambiguity as used in favor for some individuals in the likes of Orsino.

The scene begins with Malvolio and Cesario discussing the relationship between Orsino and Olivia which doesn’t seem to work. Olivia sent Malvolio to give a ring to Cesario to be returned to Orsino saying that Olivia has nothing to do with Orsino.
