Katha Pollit: Why Boys don’t Play Dolls: Summary of Pollit’s Argument
Pollit, in his argument‚ gives the reasons why there exist separate preferences for the male and female gender. He states that‚ biological determinism may be the reassurance of the present character of some adults‚ but it is feminism, which is the fundamental determinant of constantly changing‚ converging sex roles of children. This is what will be reflected in their future character. He goes ahead and disqualifies the latter argument by stating that‚ feminism movement has still not done much. This is because in America‚ as he puts it‚ has not been turned into a playground free of sex roles.
