Why Do College Students Need to Pay For Parking on Campus
Many college students do not understand why they have to pay for parking on campuses. Apparently, learners in a particular school should be offered some services for free since they spend more money on education and other extra-curricular activities. These individuals are not employed, and some of them encounter numerous challenges as they try to raise funds for their tuition fees. For this reason, giving free parking spaces for students can be a great relief so that they can use that money to cater to their necessities. However, here are some reasons why college students are required to pay for parking on their campuses.
Parking spaces on campuses are limited and cannot hold all students’ and faculty members’ vehicles. For example, the population of learners in some colleges exceeds five thousand. As such, assuming that 50% of those students have cars, the parking space should accommodate over 2,500 vehicles. Schools set parking fees to discourage learners from using personal cars to commute to school due to the limited slots. Besides, if colleges have enough spaces for everyone, they must offer security to avoid car theft. Large parking lots are a target for vehicle stealing since it is hard to know the real owner of a specific car. For this reason, anyone who comes with the right key for a particular vehicle can take it easily without being flagged as a thief. Therefore, many colleges charge parking fees to control the number of cars due to limited parking spaces.
Students should understand that parking lots are not academic resources. These are s...
