One of the most increasing issue in the families has become Unemployment, with Shelter, food and clothing topics being largely highlighted, Unemployment has now become a topic of discussion in the family. It is not only the bread winners that feel the loss of lively hood but also the young professionals that are upcoming. These are the people who are seeking employment for the first time. Notably, the issue of unemployment does not just affect the employed people but also goes to the self employed that have lost their jobs or businesses due to a reason or the other.
This has been clearly portrayed in the film by Will Smith, “The Pursuit of Happyness” which had me think about the family. The film is based on Chris Gardner an entrepreneur who was also a single father of one and homeless too. He had a business idea but no one would buy it. Due to unemployment he walks with portable scanners for bone density which he has invested his life savings in.
Discussions on solutions for unemployment have been revolved around economic growth and while this might be a solution, how will it save the family remains the question. The family revolves around unemployment because it is society’s basic unit. This is to mean that the discussions and solutions found by the society should be able to aid with the structure of the family. Withal, all the members of the society are also members of families and this paper aims to understand what the causes and effects of unemployment are to a family.
