Boal’s central idea was the use of spectators in the theatre. Spectators would participate in the theatre by raising their views to create a situation that needs urgent resolution. Boal’s ideas are bold, but they are also lacking. For instance, through his ideas, Boal advocates for leftist and moderate views, which fail to consider those who have right-wing leanings. Boal’s ideas do, however, have one advantage. Marginalized groups can use them to gain influence in the public sphere.
For instance, in the United States (U.S.), the current largest minority group is Mexican Americans. A few years ago, African Americans were the largest minority group.
