Comparison of Essays
After I read this three essay it is kind of related to my personal story. When I call back home my father always told me that “son you dot have to forget who you are everywhere you go. Keep your culture and don't lose your identity”. When I was a teenager in Eritrean some of my friend they call me by nick name some of them doesn't know my real name still. When I came to USA some business office places' they call me by my grandfather name almost my middle name, which is my father's name, lost when I came to USA.
My essay applies the evidence drawn from Onamaewa, The Man in the Water and The Discus Thrower to demonstrate the impact of traumatic experiences in life. Onamaewa is written by Leon Yen. The author of The Man in the Water is Roger Rosset. Richard Seizer wrote the Discuss in the Thrower. These three writers have demonstrated how people suffer in different perspectives. For instance, the Onamaewa had tried to find out who he was; he doesn't have a really identity and The Discuss Thrower tries to remember by throwing food on the wall and making mark of food on the wall. He tried to identify himself to workers by throwing food on the wall. While The Man in the Water is about the hero person who doesn't have any identity; he endangered his life to save a wounded victim; it also reveals miseries people pass through during accidents. My essay is focuses on the traumatic impact of these situations. Onamaewa
The story is about an individual who lost his identity. The narration brings out the emotional and physical challenges the victim went through from childhood to adulthood. For instance, during the elementary school in the States, he went by many names. He could identify himself as John, Steve, and Devin and so on. He could not stick to a single name. In essence he didn't recognize his name. His elementary school teacher was not aware of his Identity. She took it to be the regular identity games kids play. To her he was number 11 in the register and so-called him eleven. Fellow students were not aware of the condition. Possibly they were very young to acknowledge a defect in other people. One day during recess there is a bully who met him and asked him to identify himself. As usual, he got lost, he said he is eleven. The bully yelled on him on a ground that a person cannot have a number for a name. On hearing that he was self-confessed that he had no one to understand.
As time went on the bully continued disturbing till he disclosed that he previously had a name. The Bully wanted to know the name. He answered that his name was Shih-Wei. The bully laughed at him after which he advised him to get a normal name. In high school, the victim anticipated establishing a name that he could be identified with. He was impressed students who played water polo and fascinated by the scene of their return from their conquest bath. Thus, he developed an interest to play water polo. He later became a player number sixteen of the team. However, with much efforts to do better, he was never involved in the game. He always sat on the icy bench. It was very painful for him to find out that he could not do better no matter how hard he practiced. Worse was that he had spent two years doing a useless task. It was awful to see his dream diminish. A dream that had sustained and fashioned him for the whole period. The Man in the Water
The Man in the Water is a story about a hero individual who does ‘had identity; he sacrifices his life helping the others during the United States jet crash. Nobody now his name so they called him universal characteristic and some people called him every Man. The accident happened in Washington. It caused anarchy in the area.
