The Samsung Battery Explosion/Recall
Following the lawsuit about the battery explosion of the Samsung note 7, the Samsung Company announced the discontinued promotion of its Galaxy Note 7. It recalled upon its 2.5 devices and called upon its customers to return the devices for a refund (Koebler, 2016). The company decided not to repair, refurbish or resell the devices again. They promised to dispose them safely. This paper discusses if the resolution for this situation was done in a way that meets the good business law ethics.
The replaced phones also started exploding (Liberatore, 2017). This raises a question of why the phones that had already been released in the market recalled and gotten rid of before starting to replace them. Lawsuits were filed in court that even the replaced phones were exploding. Looking at the matter from the virtue theory and Kantianism perspective, the company lacked respect and concern for its customers (Salazar, 2016). It undermined the ability of the customers to come up with rational decisions about the controversies. Ethically, the company could have first recalled all the 2.5 million devices that were already in the market before starting to replace.
