Proponents of Internet regulation might say that it is needed to ensure data security, confidentiality, and privacy. On the contrary, opponents would say that the web is the only place where individuals can exercise their freedom and share their ideas and thoughts with the world. In particular, regulating the Internet is crucial to protect users from various adverse consequences, including data breaches, terrorism, insecurity, identity theft, and cyberbullying among others. The Internet should be regulated within the confines of the freedom of speech since it acts as a source of information, where people exchange their thoughts and ideas. Governments are responsible for regulating the web so that users can be safe while accessing different websites and platforms.
