The Spread of Islam and Role of Mughal Emperors in Civilization
The geographic spread of Islam and the Mughals in South Asia over time
The Mughal Empire ruled most of Pakistan and India during the 16th and 17th centuries. It was during this time that Islam spread in the region since the emperors were Muslim. They also showed zero tolerance to other religions (Kiran 217). The Empire also consolidated Islam in South Asia, spreading Islam culture and art and their faith. The Mughal Empire was descendants of the Mongol Empire, who had been living in Turkestan during the 15th century. Although they had assimilated the culture of the region, they kept elements of their roots. This contributed to the spreading of Islam in the area since the emperors and descendants opted against dropping their Islam culture and religion.
The important Mughal emperors
The various emperors also contributed to the spread of Islam and civilization. The first Mughal Emperor was Babur. He started ruling while at the age of 12, and was thus deposed by his older relatives. The third Emperor was Abu Akbar, who was one of the greatest rulers. He set out to recapture the territory that had been lost during Babur’s Empire. During this time, he also imposed Islam on people and thus spread the faith (Fisher 350).
