Introduction
The introduction of religion of Christianity in Ireland was between the periods of 400 AD to 1000 AD. It is dated back to 431 AD where Christianity was first introduced in Ireland (Hogan & Fouberg, 67). The periods before were filled with pagans who worshipped different beings and objects. Even though it is not quite clear who introduced Christianity in Ireland, some believe that St Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland. He was then a missionary who had prior suffered from slavery and had been abandoned and sent away by individuals from his own country.
After being ordained to be bishop by the holy pope who was Celestine the first at the moment, Saint Patrick was sent on a mission to preach and teach about Christianity. Saint Patrick arrived in Ireland in 432 AD. His mission proved to be a success as he was able to bless and at the same time baptize Irish inhabitants including the men, women and children; nevertheless, his success was still limited as some individuals didn't consent to being baptized (Dumville & Abrams, 54). Over the years, Christianity continued to be a success in Ireland as Saint Patrick was able to build a number of churches in the region. He ended up building a total of 300 churches in the country during his period. He usually used the exact spots that had been used by the Druids of Ireland to put up the Christian churches.
By meeting the Gaelic Celts in familiar grounds of their own culture, he was able to convert many pagans into Christianity and reach more numbers hence making Ireland a stronghold.
