Comparing and contrasting two themes in the development of the Republics of Mexico and the United States
Two main themes in the development of the Republics of Mexico and the United States of America are (i) independence from European colonial empires; and (ii) expansion.
Independence from European colonial empires
The Republics of Mexico and the United States were both developed following their independence from Spain and Great Britain respectively. In 1821, Mexico gained independence from their then colonialists Spain that resulted in the formation of a new republic which included Texas. On 9/27/1821, following 300 years of Spanish rule and an eleven-year war of independence from the colonialists, Mexico gained its sovereignty. In 1783, the United States gained its independence from Britain, a European colonial empire. After their defeat at Yorktown, Great Britain recognized the independence of America.
Expansion
