PROS AND CONS OF NEW MASK MANDATE
Introduction
The centers for disease control and prevention measures slacked the outdoor masking measures for fully vaccinated Americans. They advised that fully vaccinated people can unmask while attending small outdoor gatherings. However, they recommended masking for both the vaccinated and unvaccinated people in overcrowded settings and in indoor public spaces. The unvaccinated are still advised to wear masks at all times and only relinquish masks when gathering with small groups of vaccinated people. Masking is a necessary layer of protection that is required to suppress the Covid-19 curve.
Body
Vaccinated people can still carry the Covid-19 virus to others despite having a high immunity against the Coronavirus disease. According to Naas, he suggests that unvaccinated people can get infected by the virus and still transmit it to other people, especially if the symptoms do not show (Haas). Masking is therefore essential, especially in areas where the unvaccinated and vaccinated congregate. Garza suggests that there is little sense in masking adherence since the rate of virus transmission is insignificant; however, this does not make a whole lot of sense since there is a high risk of transmission in overcrowded and public spaces settings.
Masking remains necessary as the majority of the population remains unvaccinated. Since vaccinated and unvaccinated people will congregate, there will be a high risk of transmission. Unvaccinated people are prone to get infected by the virus; this imposes a high risk of transmission among people. Considering that not all people show signs of Covid-19, they can easily spread the virus to others, leading to a spiral in the rate of infections. Masking is therefore essential to protect the unvaccinated people against contracting the virus.
