Dear Mrs. /Miss. Katie O’Sulivan:
It may have come to your attention that in the not so distant past, my department (the PR department), lost three employees, by way of resignation. Initially, only two had resigned (Tom Santoni and Ben Cruzack). I was informed by your office that the corporation could only manage to hire one more person to make up for the lost workforce. To this end, I hired Rhonda Porter, who replaced Tom Santoni as the new Project Manager. Nevertheless, Brent Mattingly also turned in his resignation, citing academic and educational obligations. Because of this new resignation, the PR department has been left with only 8 staff, with my exclusion. Recently we held a team meeting, and we agreed that even with a staff of eight, which is 3 people short of the original number of 11, my department can still function optimally and efficiently.
However, that is not the main issue I wish to highlight in this letter. My concerns rest mostly in ensuring the right amount of morale and employee satisfaction needed to realize our efficiency. More specifically, I noted, upon close deliberation with my team of staff, that over the several months leading into the recent resignation of Brent Mattingly, most of the employees in my department handled extra work at no extra pay. This means that most of my staff members have been forced, due to the recent wave of resignations, to accept extra workload, outside their job descriptions. To this effect, I wish to express my desire to have their job descriptions, and salaries plus titles, be reviewed via their reclassification.
I should mention that my main reasons for having to seek reclassification are not so much due to the increased workload-that is just beside the main point. I feel that my staff members in the PR department deserve to be motivated, and given satisfaction in what they do, if I am to increase their productivity.
