Ethics and Laws Essay
Write a descriptive essay, in which you describe the ethics and laws of a company of your choice. It is minimum three pages long, following MLA or APA format.
This essay can be combined with the Final Paper. If it is combined with the Final Paper, the page requirements for both assignments must meet the combined total of the minimum pages for both. This means that the 3 pages for the Ethics and Laws paper and the 5 pages for the Final Paper need to equal a minimum of 8 pages.
Ethics is “a set of principles for determining good and right conduct (Willerton, 2015, p. 60). A law is defined as:
A system of principles and rules of human conduct, being the aggregate of those commandments and principles which are either prescribed or recognized by the gov- erning power in an organized jural society as its will in relation to the conduct of the members of such society, and which it undertakes to maintain and sanction and to use as the criteria of the actions of such members. This paper is not meant to see how much you know about law. Laws can be described in general. Specific law code is not necessary, but you may include certain parts of each law you want to elaborate on.

Introduction
Zappos is perhaps one of the largest online shoe and clothing company in the world. Although it was independent for the most time, it was then acquired by Amazon back in 2009. As such, Zappos’ culture, as well as ethical standards, has somehow been integrated with that of Amazon. Nonetheless, Zappos has retained the kind of aims and visions that it had when it was first starting and lives by the mission that “aim to inspire the world by showing it's possible to simultaneously deliver happiness to customers, employees, vendors, shareholders, and the community in a long-term, sustainable way” CITATION Zapnd \l 1033 (Zappos.com). In this article, the ethical standards followed by every stakeholder in the company would be discussed. All in all, the author believes that the company's mission and vision would provide a reflection of the ethical standards employed by every individual stakeholder.
Zappos’ Core Values
Hierarchy and Open Communication
Zappos’ main ethical standard revolves around the idea of bringing change, reducing hierarchy, and creating a culture where everyone acts as a family. These core standards are envisioned within its “10 Core Values” that are provided in their Code of Conduct CITATION Zap10 \l 1033 (Zappos.com). Accordingly, these standards have also played a vital role in how employees interact with their managers. As compared to other companies, Zappos emphasized the role of reducing hierarchy and empowering the employees to make their own decisions and find a solution to their problem. Nevertheless, this process of change management was adopted by the Zappos during the time when it was faced with the 2008 financial crisis. Nonetheless, in order to ensure that the process of changing its approach towards its workforce does not significantly affect its employees’ capacity to cope with stress and deal with other problems in life, Zappos also placed huge importance over integrated and open communication between the different members of their community.
As stated earlier, the company and its managers encourage the employees to speak up and establish open communication with one another. It believes that with the help of open and free-flowing communication, both members and managers would be able to build stronger relationships that are founded on honesty and timely communication. Thus, whenever an employee needs help or assistance after trying to do his best in finding a solution, he can ask others for ideas, manpower, or any other input that could help them overcome the problem.
