For this assignment, you will analyze a media “text”: a set of images, television show, radio program, film, video game, website, or physical installation, using the approaches discussed in class. Using Adobe Photoshop, translate the media text/object into 1-10 images that explicate its underlying codes, performances, and/or relationships. These images might have multiple frames in themselves, or it may have no frames at all. The critical approach that you have chosen should

be clear in your images. In your presentation, you should reflect on the strategies you have used in creating your visual analysis and connect your work to the critical approaches and readings discussed in class.
Unit 1: Textual Analysis/Media Annotation
The goal of this unit is to introduce and clearly distinguish different methods of textual analysis. You will learn how to perform semiotics and discourse analysis, psychoanalysis, and narrative and genre analysis. For the assignment, each student (we will not be working in groups) will analyze a media “text”: a set of images, television show, radio program, film, video game, website, or physical installation, using the approaches discussed in class. Using Adobe Photoshop, translate the media text/object into 1-10 images that explicate its underlying codes, performances, and/or relationships. A statement is expected to be sensible after and make one distinguish the context and the language within the text. The text to be discussed is “Football involves hard-hitting steps and can result to concussions, head injuries, and even permanent brain damage.” The media text is supposed to give a meaning and establish a connection with the reader.
