Zine Reflection Experience
Creating a zine about LGBTQ has been a journey that has helped me learn more about the relationship between the LGBTQ and the different nations globally. However, there are numerous ways of creating a zine, which mainly depends on the goals that have enabled you to decide to make a zine about a specific topic. I chose a digital zine to help gather information about the Chinese LGBTQ. The technology influence from the environment and my peers led me to decide to create my zine digitally rather than using the non-digital zines. The non-digital zines have more work than the digital zines (The International Magazine Centre).). It could make me gather papers and stick them together to achieve a non-digital zine.
Zine Creation Process and Final Assignment Choices
To create a well-strategized zine, I laid out different strategies that enabled me to walk through the LGBTQ topic and find conclusions and results from my zine. Before making this zine, I decided which topic suits my research ability best. After analyzing the different topics that I had enlisted down, I decided to talk about the LGBTQ and the KOLs in China and the challenges they face in the Chinese Society known for discriminating against the LGBTQ community. Therefore, the first step of making a zine is to choose the topic that one is more comfortable talking about. I determined my unique value to make my zine more special than other LGBTQs and queer zines. Numerous zines published globally have rich details about the LGBTQ community.
In creating an LGBTQ zine, I chose various journals from authors who had different views on Chinese LGBTQs and KOL in Chinese society. Different journals have different data collected by the authors about LGBTQ members. I picked the journals that aligned with my view on Chinese LGBTQ KOLs that face discrimination from their society. However, when creating a zine using data from different journals, you have to arrange the information so that the journals' points and unique perspectives are chronicled. Since some of my peers are also interested in LGBTQ KOLS in China, I got my friends involved in making my zine, and they helped me understand the journals I used to create the LGBTQ zine.
Digital Zine and Difficulties Encountered
Choosing to talk about the LGBTQ zine, it was challenging to gather sources supporting the idea I had about LGBTQ having freedom in all societies globally. I encountered journals that were not supporting the acts of LGBTQ, and I had to look for more journals and find the journals that aligned with my topic of LGBTQ KOL on Chinese social media. Some students discouraged me from choosing a different topic to create a zine with rather than the LGBTQ zine. I found it hard for my friends trying to convince me that creating an LGBTQ zine was not interesting compared to the other topics that were enlisted for us to choose.
Zines can be created in many designs, and deciding the format that I would use to make my LGBTQ zine was challenging. I had numerous ideas in mind and did not know which one I should settle for. However, designing how the zine would look challenged me; I had to make my zine look presentable. I spend a lot of time thinking about the overall color that the zine will have or If I will use multiple colors to blend in the LGBTQ universal colors. I had to decide which font I would use to write my LGBT...
