Language criteria on Obama’s second Inauguration
In his second inauguration address to the nation, President Obama used numerous literary devices to articulate his message. The speech’s opening message was that America is unique in spite of the differences in opinion, race and religion, but through the constitution all Americans are bound to be treated equal under the law. Thus, he reaffirms the notion that the constitution guarantees freedoms as God intended, and then goes on to mention his belief of equality for all citizens.
Obama compares his oath ceremony to that of preceding Presidents through the use of a simile “my fellow Americans, the oath I have sworn before you today, like the one recited by others who serve in this Capitol.” Other than comparison the speech uses the metaphor of journey to illustrate Obama’s vision for the country by first illustrating the values of the constitution whereby he says “Today we continu...
