What I Learned from Hospitality?
Introduction
Since the emergence of globalization and digitalization, the focus towards hospitality industry received a remarkable response from professionals and students. Over the decades, the hospitality sector expanded beyond restaurants and tourism. Instead, the hospitality industry is defined as a backbone of gross domestic product (GDP) for countries like Malaysia, which rely on the inflow of people from global spectrum (Tan et.al 417). Hospitality is a sustainable sector that constantly requires employees that could entertain customers and generate revenue subsequently. However, it is important for students to understand the concept of hospitality, which is not limited to restaurants and tourism only. Instead, hospitality is a broader spectrum that teaches customized entertainment for augmenting the experiences of guests, in either hotel, restaurant or related customer-centric servicescapes (Bharwani and Mathews 416). This paper would discuss the core set of learning I had from hospitality, particularly focusing on the restaurant sector. The hospitality knowledge is highly important for professionals to provide positive experiences to guests and ensure retention subsequently.

The hospitality education is criticised of being homogeneous in nature, limiting the innovation and creativity of people significantly. As a result, majority restaurants lack talents that could entertain customers with excellent hospitality throughout the servicescape delivery (I-Chen et.al 193-194). For restaurants today, it is important to differentiate the servicescape by offering bespoke hospitality to the guests for ensuring retention in latter stages of an operational lifecycle. The hospitality serves as a backbone for the culinary sector, allowing the restaurants to operate as a recognised brand for the customers from different backgrounds.
Throughout my learning experience, I identified hospitality as an important tool for satisfying a customer towards the servicescape. The hospitality increases familiarity of young talents about various aesthetics, cultures, product, service, and management, which collectively assist in brining creativity while attending guests (I-Chen et.al 195). With the hospitality expertise, a young talent in the culinary sector could prosper based on distinct competencies and knowledge about different guests visiting a restaurant routinely. The certification in hospitality is valuable if a student is capable of offering value to the culinary sector by innovative competencies (I-Chen et.al 195). Precisely, the culinary sector is highly customer-centric while the principles of hospitality teach a student to create and sustain differentiation for the guests. Such differentiations aid a restaurant to establish a strong customer base an...
