Users’ data is never a case for compromise at the company’s convenience or rather it ought to be a primary objective in its operations and more importantly, when writing its algorithms. In this regard, any social media company bears the responsibility to ensuring privacy for their users. Privacy here entails refraining from accessing users’ data particularly, information that has been sent through inbox. An excellent example is that of Schrems who used Facebook for accessing his inbox and even retracting messages he had with a friend who had died (Kuchler). When it comes to monetizing their site, the company should rely on the information that is on their feed only and even then, the specifics should not be proliferated to third parties.
