Women in Business-What positive impact do you see of women in business?
I believe one the best ways to contribute to societal development is through business. As a woman, I am fascinated by how businesses can impact the society through employment, provision of goods and services, and community engagement. I was born and raised in a small village in Indonesia. When I came to the United States seven years ago, I saw myself becoming a woman in business impacting the society positively. I experienced challenges during my initial years in this country, but the inspiration of other women in business kept motivating me. I believe women in business play an integral role towards making this world a better place.
When I first came to the United States, I experienced challenges including culture shock, learning the English language, and change in change in climate. Of these challenges, learning English was the hardest. I expected the culture of people in the US to be different, but the learning language seemed harder than I thought. I had to learn the English language first in order to cope with the cultural difference. I experienced difficulties in pronunciation and grammar, but with commitment and practice, I became better and better. As a woman interested in business activities, learning language was necessary to understand how the business world works. My interest in business, as well as the role women are playing in the field, motivated me to pursue a degree in Business Administration.
I believe young women are motivated to a great extent by other women having positive impacts in business. Personally, a woman I look up to in the business world is Indra Nooyi, Pepsico’s CEO. Her journey to becoming the CEO of one of the biggest brands in the world inspires me. It is this same inspiration that I want to pass to my 13-year old daughter. I want to be a role model to her. It is my belief that my journey in the business world would inspire her just like I am motivated by other women who are in business at the moment.
