For this advertisement, the designer wanted to portray how sleepiness can cause road to human accidents. The designer highlighted the eye of a person who seems to be drowsy, and sleepy, with a car on the top eyelid, and a mother with a baby carriage on the bottom eyelid. In its simplicity, it successfully relates to the morality and ethics of the viewer. At the bottom of the poster, a brief text is provided about how all people are susceptible to sleepiness with the words” Sleepiness is stronger than you.” This provides a clear warning of how sleepiness can be dangerous for drivers. The design shows that if the eyelids meet, symbolizing “sleep” in the context of the driver, then the car and woman will hit each other.
For me, the advertisement is brief, concise and effective in imparting its central message. The design is simple and succinct. With minimal elements, the designer is able to relate the human vulnerability to sleepiness, to vehicular accident. The image of a mother with a baby carriage especially appeals to the pathos of the viewer. The woman and child represents the vulnerable population, which all people relate to. Nobody wants to lose a mother and a child, which makes the message standout and direct to the point.
