Prints and Drawings versus Modern and Contemporary Art
Prints and drawings were ways of storing information dating way back to the 16th century. It consists of crude ways of information storage where the artists used their bare hands to draw objects on surfaces. Early artists, including Albrecht Dürer, became very famous for his melancholia I drawing. This drawing, for example, has lived on and given many scholars a puzzle to solve on what pushed Dürer into drawing it. Many of the drawings from the early time, up to the 19th century, have been an expression of what the artist was going through in his or her life. Prints came later as an improvement of the drawings. Modern and contemporary art is another way of storing information. Notably, it is mostly the recent one ranging between the 1970s to date. It involves the use of technology to store information. This makes the main difference between contemporary art and prints and drawings. Contemporary, therefore, is the improvement of prints and drawings.
Drawings are not as accurate as in contemporary art. This is mainly because drawings employ the art of estimation. The artist looks at the object and tries his or her best to records it on a surface. Human error makes it inaccurate at times. This error is very minimal in contemporary art because advanced technology is employed.
