Greek theater originates from three basic genres that is tragedy, satyr play and comedy. Their performance started during the dramatic festivals of the Greek world in cities such as Anthesteria, Lenaia, Rural Dionysainad and Panathenaea. It is believed that Greek theater came about as a result of activities usually magico-religious activity. Besides, Greek theatre had a special connection with Greek religion and religious festivals that were performed in the honor of God Dionysus, the god of drama and arts. Over time Greek theatre has undergone various transformations to become part and parcel of the modern world theatre.
In tracing back to the origins of Greek theatre becomes clearer that Western drama also began in the mid-sixth century at Athens. During this period, a lot of Greek drama was performed as core of every activity and it is during this time that most of the plays present nowadays were produced. However, during those days, Greek drama was comprised of various rules that enabled it to undergo growth. For instance, the actors that played first roles in the theatres were priests, shamans or sacred dancers and a majority of these performances took place in spaces originally designed for other specific purposes.
