A senior high school student goes on a vacation and discovers a portal, then suddenly he is transported to a kingdom in the year 1852. The nation is stricken by a disease-causing the inhabitants to turn into stone. To be able to go back in his time, he now needs to help the King’s sons find the cure to this sickness.
Characters
Miguel – A tall and lanky senior high school student who will go on an adventure of a lifetime after discovering a portal from the present time to 1852. He is part of a band and sings well. He just wants to finish high school and enter university, taking major in music. Miguel also enjoys traveling to provinces a lot, especially when school is out.
King Phillip – The ruler of Kalea, known for his victories on the battlefield during his earlier years. A just ruler and concerned King to his people. He is already old, bearded, and a bit fat but always has a calm and genuine smile on his face. His physique is no longer fit for battles.
Prince Benjamin – The second son of King, who is the most exposed to the people, always wandering outside the gates of the palace. He is tall, lean, and moves swiftly. Among the three, prince Benjamin is the one who gives Queen Marguerite headaches because of his daring stunts. He is efficient and rational, especially in decision making. He does not have any interest in royalty and the duties that accompany the title. Prince Benjamin just wants a peaceful and healthy life close to the people of the kingdom.
Prince Andrei – The first-born son of King Philip, who is muscular and a skilled swordsman. He aspires to be the next in line for the throne of Kalea and has been getting ready to rule the kingdom by using his strength and exuding power when around people.
Harriet – The witch inside the kingdom, an ally and good friend of the King. She is young looking with long platinum-colored hair. She was the playmate of the King when they were both kids, but she remained the same at around the age of twenties or thirties.
Luna – the mystic bird whose voice is said to be the cure needed in the kingdom of Kalea,
Themes:
The story is about what greed can do to people. This story emphasizes the value of family and friendship when working towards a goal. The question that will be formed at the start of the movie is if Miguel will be able to go back to his world and to his family? And will the kingdom be able to get rid of the disease and live abundantly as a nation again? The story is remarkable not just for entertainment but also for the life lessons that children and even adults can learn from. The events in the story show the importance of doing things from your heart with a pure intention and not just to gain something great, like royalty and riches, in return.
Setting
The story takes place in two timelines, the first one that will be seen is the present time where Miguel belongs, and the second one is in the past, specifically the year 1852 where the adventure of finding the cure for the people will happen. The story will take place in an undeveloped provincial setup with only a few houses, lots of beaches, plantations, and trees. No sights of concrete infrastructures or pavements, only huts and dirt roads. The place is sunny, and their villages but are far away from each other. It is the province of his late grandfather, and it is where he visits his grave to pay his respects every year. The surroundings are very realistic, with a rural vibe. The second setting is after Miguel enters the portal, a fantasy world from the past. It has a big palace with knights and horses guarding the place. Near the palace gates, there is a big village full of familiar people with market places, houses, schools, etc. Although the area in the second setting is the same throughout the film, but the mood will be conveyed by how it looks like or feels like, if it is bright and sunny with lots of people, or gray and rainy with few people on the streets, indicating the emotion in that part of the film and matching it to the feel of the situation that the protagonists are facing.
Tone and Style:
This is a fantasy or supernatural adventure story. There is the presence of time travel and the possibility of another dimension. It also includes a touch of myth to the story by using the mystical bird, Luna. The story will be shown as a film, because in this way, the transitions will be smoother and easier to understand, considering that there is the presence of two worlds and mythical creatures included in the play.
Plot and Structure:
The major dramatic question is, what will happen to Miguel? Will he be able to go back to his world?
The opening starts with Miguel in the cemetery visiting his grandfather’s tomb. He stays for a while but decides to leave since it is already getting dark. He walks and realizes that he is now lost in the forest, and as he is walking and trying to find his way, he sees a tree surrounded by fireflies with a bright door in the middle. He is mesmer...
