We will watch a video in class, "Composing is a Battle for Me" featuring composer John Corigliano. We will follow that with hearing most or all of his Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra.
You will write a short one page essay regarding at least 3 points he made regarding the life of a classical composer. In addition, find at least 3 instances of techniques that we studied in class(non-tertial structures; aleatoric music; chromatic chord progressions; polytonality; free chromaticism; pan-diatonicism) within his composition as well as conjecture which composer or particular composition techniques might have influenced his writing and why.
