The movie reviewed in this paper is Saving Private Ryan that was directed by Steven Spielberg, in 1998, it is an American movie based on the epics of war during the World War II at the times of the invasion of Normandy. It was written by Robert Radat. Those who love action movies will enjoy this one as it is gives a thrilling account of the war and realistically portrays the fine details encountered then. The first 27 minutes portrays the invasion and assault of the Omaha Beach in 1944 (Spielberg, 1998). The star of the movie is Tom Hanks who acts as Captain John a ranger of the United States Army. Others who act as soldiers include, Tom Sizemore, Barry Pepper, Edward Burns, Vin Diesel, Jeremy Davies, and Adam Goldberg.
The movie opens on the June 6th 1944, at the morning hours with the Normandy invasion where the soldiers are all armed to invade the Omaha Beach. The American army is not able to conquer the German army and they go down to a well prepared army. The second assault is led by Captain John of the 2nd Ranger Battalion to attack the Germans and control the beach. During this attacks two brothers from the Ryan Family die; moreover a third brother had died in New Guinea (Spielberg, 1998). The Chief of Staff is to give the message to their mother which is deemed as devastating on the same day. All the same, the chief of staff learns that the fourth brother to the same family Private James Ryan is alive but captured in the battle fields; he sends a team of 8 men to rescue and bring him back.
Tom Hanks lead the team of the 2nd Ranger Batallion through the Nazi territory so as to get into contact with the unit Ryan was in. one can tell the intense war and the horrible conditions during this time. The movie acts as a tale of history by giving a vivid account of the real situations soldiers go through and the effects of war. It is in Remelle that they find Ryan ambushing the German tracks but the troops had casualties of two soldiers. Ryan is reluctant to go home arguing the he already got the brother he had left; this is in reference to his fellow army men (Spielberg, 1998).
