The Madonna and Child Painting
The Madonna and Child is a religious painting which portrays the image of Virgin Mary with the child Jesus. The painting was done in Italy by master of St. Cecilia between 1290 and 1295. The influential artist of the painting still remains a mystery, but majority associate the artwork with master of St. Cecilia. The painting however exhibits some Greek inscription which was mainly derived from the Roman paintings and mosaics. And for this reason some historians argue that the painting must have originated from Rome. The painting was done on a Tempera and gold leaf panel and approximately took a size of 33 and half by 26 inches. The mother and child painting are also safely guarded by the golden frame and background which not only indicate the value of the image, but also harmonizes the entire colors of the painting.
The Madonna and Child painting portrayed an image of Virgin Mary in an upright posture looking towards the viewer and at the same time gently supporting baby Jesus with her left arm. The infant child is also depicted with a loving smile and gazing towards her mother in a playful manner. There is a star on Madonna`s forehead which denotes her title and name Miriam. The painting format and dress code identify her origin to that of Byzantine Empire. Her ornamented scroll on both side of Madonna further confirmed her traditional icon.
