Analysis of a Market Price
Identify the rate, currency, commodity or security (“instrument”).
The commodity selected for this assignment from the Wall Street Journal is crude oil. It was selected because of its recent trend in which its price had fallen to a negative value. This implies that owners were paying retailers and customers to take away the commodity from this. This helps in reducing inventory charges.
State its current price, 52-week high price and low price.
The current price ranges around $32.76, with the value fluctuating every single second. The current volume of the commodity is 311,764 and its open interest is 282,132. On the other hand, its 1-day range is 30.72-34.00, while its 52-week range is -40.32 - 65.65 ("CL.1 | Crude Oil WTI (NYM $/bbl) Front Month Futures Prices and News - WSJ", 2020). This means that the highest price as registered on 04/20/20 was -40.32 while the lowest price was registered on 01/08/20 as - 65.65. This means that the price is deteriorating, falling to a negative value.
